Captain Timothy Whyte’s life was dedicated to duty, honor, and sacrifice. Raised in Texas, he rose through the ranks of the U.S. Army to become a respected leader and Commander of Co A, 84th Engineer Battalion.


His leadership was pivotal during the hazardous mission to clean up the radioactive aftermath of nuclear tests at the Enewetak Atoll in the 1980s.


As the leader responsible for the initial work on Runit and the excavation of the crater, Captain Whyte approached the daunting mission with unmatched determination and resilience. His team worked tirelessly to secure and contain the radioactive material, understanding that their actions would protect future generations. Timothy's soldiers found strength in his example, knowing he would never ask them to do something he wouldn’t do himself.


Captain Whyte’s legacy is one of courage, leadership, and selfless service. His work at Enewetak Atoll turned a dangerous and uncertain situation into a triumph over adversity, leaving an enduring impact. Though he passed away on November 11, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas, his memory remains alive in the hearts of those who served with him, a testament to his commitment to both his soldiers and the greater good of humanity.
