A Scholar and SoldierColonel Adcock's journey of excellence began with his education at Northeast Louisiana State University, where he graduated in 1957. His thirst for knowledge continued, leading him to earn a master’s degree in science from the University of Rochester in 1963. His academic achievements laid a strong foundation for a life of leadership and service, as he embarked on a remarkable 28-year career in the U.S. Army.


A Military Career of Honor and ServiceThroughout his military career, Colonel Adcock exhibited unshakable commitment to his country. His service included two tours of duty in Germany and prestigious assignments in the Washington D.C. area.


He contributed to institutions such as the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and served as the director of the Armed Forces Radiology Research Institute at the Bethesda Navy Medical Center. His leadership and expertise were widely recognized, reflecting his tireless dedication to the safety and advancement of his fellow servicemen.


One of the most notable chapters of Colonel Adcock’s career was his involvement in the atomic cleanup project on the Enewetak Atoll in the Marshall Islands. For a year, he devoted himself to this challenging mission, demonstrating unparalleled courage and selflessness in the face of great adversity. His efforts contributed to the protection of future generations, standing as a testament to his deep sense of responsibility and service.


A Legacy Beyond the MilitaryAfter his retirement from the Army in 1985, Colonel Adcock continued his remarkable journey by dedicating two decades of service to the Manufacturing Science Corporation in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He retired in 2004, capping a life filled with extraordinary contributions to both his country and his community.


A Life Rooted in Love and FamilyColonel Adcock's personal life was defined by his enduring love for his wife, Carldene Pope Adcock, with whom he shared a remarkable 64-year bond. Together, they built a loving family that became the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his daughter, Emily Kyle Haje, and son, Jeffrey Turner Adcock, along with their spouses and grandchildren, who carry forward his legacy of love and devotion. Although predeceased by his eldest son, Kevin Pope Adcock, and his brothers, Colonel Adcock’s memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved and admired him.
