RIP Honor Atomic Veteran Thomas McClure DeVore

A Life Dedicated to Duty, Family, and the Enewetak Cleanup


In Goleta, California, on October 6, 2022, the world bid farewell to Thomas McClure DeVore, born March 11, 1938, in Pennsylvania. Tom’s legacy is defined by his unwavering commitment to family, faith, and service, particularly during his role in the radiological cleanup of Enewetak Atoll. As a coordinator for the Army, Tom played a crucial part in this hazardous mission, helping restore the land to the Enewetak People after 33 years of displacement.


Tom’s service at Enewetak Atoll stood as a defining chapter in his life, reflecting his dedication, professionalism, and sacrifice. During the six-week mission, Tom managed logistics in the challenging and dangerous cleanup of radioactive waste, a task that required both technical expertise and tremendous courage. His selflessness earned him the respect of his country and those he served, exemplifying the true spirit of honor and duty.



Beyond his military service, Tom was a devoted family man. He spent his final years with his daughter Karen and her family, having bravely faced Alzheimer's for 12 years and suffered a stroke in August 2020. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones. His legacy, etched in the annals of history, will be remembered for his commitment to his country and family.
