RIP In Memory of Atomic Veteran Victor "Vic" Sarte: A Life of Service, Love, and Laughter

"From Enewetak to Family Gatherings, A Legacy of Dedication and Humor."

Victor “Vic” Sarte, a man of extraordinary wit, intellect, and dedication, passed away peacefully in his home early Tuesday morning, surrounded by his beloved "Army of Nurses"—his wife, daughter, and granddaughter. Vic's life was one of service, resilience, and deep connection with those he loved.

Vic proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where his skills as an aerospace and nuclear engineer contributed to some of the most critical missions of his time. Stationed initially at Albuquerque Air Force Base, Vic later volunteered for the Enewetak Atoll Cleanup Project in the South Pacific. His role in this monumental mission demonstrated his commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring the safety of future generations.

Working on Enewetak Atoll—a site of historic nuclear testing—was both a technical and personal challenge. Vic’s contributions during this period reflect the ingenuity, courage, and professionalism that defined his career.

Outside his military service, Vic’s talents and interests were boundless. He excelled in painting, building signs, and entertaining, while also finding joy in unique ventures like beekeeping and running a retail feed store. These pursuits showcased his creative spirit and unrelenting curiosity. Vic’s quick wit and humor were his trademarks, bringing laughter and light to those around him even in the face of illness.

Vic's personal life was filled with love and family. He met the love of his life, June Molacek, through his mother, who wisely invited June to join a Sunday Family Dinner. They were married on May 1, 1963, in El Segundo, California, embarking on a journey of over five decades together. Vic cherished his family deeply and took immense pride in his role as a husband, father, and grandfather.

Vic is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, June Molacek Sarte, his daughter Katherine Sarte Caudill, and his grandchildren: Jennifer, Christina, Kirsten, Victor Lawrence, Alexander, and Jerica. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren: Raeanne, Julianna, and James, as well as his siblings: Bruce Sarte and Joyce Ann Sarte Fuller. Vic was preceded in death by his parents, Victor J. Sarte and Cecelia “Ceil” Delise Sarte, and his son, Victor Raymond Sarte.

"Victor Sarte’s life was a testament to the power of service, creativity, and love. From his work on Enewetak Atoll to the laughter he brought to family dinners, Vic’s legacy will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Vic—you will be deeply missed but fondly remembered in every smile, story, and moment of joy you left behind."
