RIP Tribute and Honor to Atomic Veteran Victor Sarte: A Life of Service, Wit, and Devotion

"A Husband, Father, and Grandfather with a Heart as Big as His Humor."

Victor “Vic” Sarte, born September 9, 1936, lived a life filled with love, humor, and adventure. His journey, which began in San Bernardino, California, took him across the world as he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Stationed at an Air Force base in Albuquerque, NM, and later volunteering for duty on the Enewetak Atoll in the South Pacific, Vic exemplified the dedication and courage of his generation.

His service contributed to a chapter of history that remains etched in the memories of those who served alongside him.

Vic’s life was not only defined by his service but by his remarkable career as an aerospace and nuclear engineer. A man of many talents, he was known to “dabble” in a little bit of everything: painting, sign building, beekeeping, and even running a feed store.

His endless curiosity and willingness to try new things made him a well-rounded and fascinating person. He had a knack for brightening any room with his quick wit, always bringing laughter and joy to those around him. Even through his illness, Vic’s sense of humor remained undiminished—a testament to his resilience and character.

The story of Vic and June, his beloved wife, began over Sunday family dinners, where they met through his mother’s invitation.

The two were married on May 1, 1963, in El Segundo, California, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and laughter. Together for 52 years, they created a beautiful family, with their daughter Katherine and their cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought Vic tremendous pride and joy.

As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Vic was lovingly surrounded by what he affectionately called his “Army of nurses”—his wife, daughter, and granddaughter, who cared for him in his final days. Vic’s legacy lives on in each of them, as well as in the countless lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and wisdom. Though his presence will be missed, his spirit endures in the family he loved so dearly.

Preceded in death by his parents and his son, Victor Raymond Sarte, Vic leaves behind his wife June, daughter Katherine Sarte Caudill, and grandchildren Jennifer, Christina, Kirsten, Victor Lawrence, Alexander, and Jerica, as well as three great-grandchildren and his siblings, Bruce Sarte and Joyce Ann Sarte Fuller. Each of them carries a piece of his legacy, a reminder of the love and laughter he shared so generously.

“To Victor Sarte, we offer our heartfelt gratitude and respect. Your life of service, curiosity, and humor brought joy to all who knew you. Thank you for the memories, the love, and the laughter. Rest in peace, knowing that your legacy will live on in your family and in the hearts of everyone you touched. You will be missed but never forgotten.”
