His service, from February 14, 1979, to June 4, 1979, was marked by remarkable leadership and technical skill, contributing significantly to the successful completion of this complex mission.
Ricky’s role as Officer in Charge (OIC) of both the Water-Beach Cleanup Team and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit One Team TWO exemplified his deep commitment, experience, and unwavering professionalism.
Ricky’s extensive background, including over 11 years of experience with explosives, diving, and combat in Vietnam, uniquely positioned him to handle the dual responsibilities entrusted to him. His leadership was vital in managing two demanding teams, ensuring safety and precision in all operations.
As Explosive Safety Range Officer and Enewetak Diving Officer, Ricky brought critical expertise to underwater explosives and diving operations, meticulously planning and executing strategies that facilitated the safe removal of debris from past nuclear tests and World War II remnants. His work minimized fragmentation risks and prevented the spread of radioactive materials, safeguarding both his team and the environment.
One of Ricky’s most notable achievements occurred on Runit Island (Yvonne), where he and his team faced the challenging task of explosively clearing a boat channel to Lujor Island.
