Sergeant John Lee Hodge displayed exceptional versatility and unwavering dedication during his service with the 84th Engineer Battalion in the Marshall Islands. Initially assigned as a MARS Station Operator on Lojwa Island, Sgt. Hodge was entrusted with the crucial task of maintaining communications between the soldiers stationed on the atoll and their families back home. In April 1978, Sgt. Hodge assumed full responsibility for the MARS station, ensuring its seamless operation.
