Tribute to a Brave Atomic Veteran: Honoring Raymond Hama
Continuing tributes to our living veterans, we honor Raymond Hama, a dedicated Army serviceman whose contributions and sacrifices during his service are commendable. Holding the Chief Warrant Officer 2 (CW2) rank, Raymond served as the Larc Team Commander in the 309th Transportation Detachment.
During his time in Enewetak, Raymond led his Larc Team with courage and determination, overseeing critical missions supporting the Joint Task Force (JTF). As the Larc Team Commander, he played a pivotal role in the cleanup efforts across the southwestern islands of the atoll. His team's responsibilities included clearing Enewetak Island, ensuring its readiness for the return of native inhabitants, and mitigating the environmental impact of past atomic tests.
Raymond's leadership extended beyond his role as a Larc Team Commander. As he transitioned to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 1 (WO1) and later to CW2, he continued to serve with distinction. Stationed at Lojwa, Raymond provided invaluable support to the A and B companies of the 84th Engineer Battalion. His team's efforts spanned the atoll's northern, southern, and southwestern islands, contributing significantly to the ongoing cleanup operations.
Raymond exemplified the values of duty, service, sacrifice, and camaraderie throughout his service. His unwavering commitment to his fellow service members and the mission is a testament to his character and dedication. Despite facing challenges and adversity, Raymond remained steadfast in fulfilling his duties and responsibilities.
