In tribute to our resilient living soldiers, today we shine a light on Larry Handy, a dedicated Army veteran whose service has spanned decades, from the 1970s to the present day. Larry's journey exemplifies the enduring spirit of service and commitment that defines our military community.


Larry Handy, an Army E-4, served as a Mason with B Company of the 84th Engineer Battalion. Stationed at Lojwa from March 17, 1976, to November 4, 1977, Larry's duties included mixing concrete and constructing tin huts, essential tasks that played a vital role in the development of the island's infrastructure. His skilled craftsmanship and hard work were instrumental in building the foundations that supported the military's presence and operations on the island.


Fast forward to September 3, 2015, and we find Larry Bruce Handy still proudly serving his country. As an Army E-5, Larry returned to Lojwa as part of the advance party for 1st Company, once again applying his skills as a Mason in the 84th Engineer Battalion. His assignment involved constructing huts for his fellow servicemen, providing essential shelter and comfort in challenging conditions. Despite the passage of time, Larry's commitment to duty and his dedication to service remained unwavering.


Larry's story is a testament to the enduring spirit of our military personnel, whose sacrifices and contributions often go unrecognized.
